SMITH TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A woman is dead and her son injured after a home invasion in Washington County early Monday morning.
State police said that several men dressed in all black clothing and wearing masks entered the home around 1:15 a.m. on Eleanor Street in Smith Township.
During an argument, state police said one of the suspects shot a woman, 37-year-old Renee Gill, and her son.
Upon hearing the gunshots, Gill’s son, who was home at the time, then approached the men and was shot.
Renee Gill was pronounced dead at the scene, but 911 operators were able to speak with her before her passing to obtain ‘crucial’ information for the investigation, according to state police.
Her son was taken to a nearby hospital.
The suspects fled the scene before troopers arrived.
State police said the suspects most likely knew the victim, but troopers continue to investigate a connection.
Troopers say while they do not believe there was a ‘forced entry’, police also believe the two men were not welcome in the home.
State police and the Washington County District Attorney’s Office are conducting interviews and continue to investigate. State Police say they believe there is no threat to the public and that this was an isolated incident.
