Person taken to hospital from Wilkins Township house fire

WILKINS TOWNSHIP, Pa. — At least one person was hurt in a Wilkins Township house fire on Saturday.

An Allegheny County 911 official tells Channel 11 that police, fire and EMS were called to a home on Laurel Drive after 11:30 a.m.

Dispatchers confirm one person was taken to a hospital from the scene.

According to the Wilkins Township Volunteer Fire Company, crews were alerted to a possible house fire in the Eastmont area of town.

A caller reportedly told 911 dispatchers that the fire was out, but crews arrived to find a fire in the structure’s rear, Wilkins officials say.

Multiple departments worked for several hours to extinguish the fire while dealing with property conditions, terrain and where the fire was located, Wilkins officials say.

According to the Penn Hills Volunteer Fire Company, crews encountered hoarding conditions in the home. A second alarm was called due to the severity of smoke and fire conditions.

A resident in the home was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Penn Hills officials say. Two firefighters were evaluated on scene.

The Allegheny County Fire Marshal is investigating, Wilkins officials say.
