AMBRIDGE, Pa. — Police have a suspect in custody after a shooting in Ambridge left two people dead on Sunday.
According to the Ambridge Police Department, officers were called to the 300 block of Locust Street around 2:30 a.m. for reports of multiple gunshots.
A person in the area told officers that the shots came from inside a home.
Officers went into the home and found two people, a man and a woman, who were dead from multiple gunshot wounds.
Ambridge police identified the victims as 54-year-old Andre Littles of Pittsburgh and 38-year-old Ashley Anne Delucca of Ambridge.
A suspect was identified, and police notified other agencies to be on the lookout, Ambridge police say.
Around 8:37 a.m., Ohio State Highway Patrol informed Ambridge police that the suspect had been apprehended after a crash in Zanesville, Ohio.
The suspect, identified as 39-year-old Howard James Thomas Jr. of Ambridge, was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Thomas was taken into custody on an arrest warrant for two counts of homicide, Ambridge police say.
According to police, both Thomas and Delucca lived at the Locust Street home together.
Ambridge Mayor Tina Iorfido-Schmidt issued this statement on social media:
“I am saddened by the tragic loss of life resulting from the double homicide this morning in Ambridge. On behalf of the Borough, I extend my condolences to the family and loved ones grieving.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this incredibly difficult time. I ask that we as a community come together with compassion respect and unity for the family of the victims.
“I want to thank our police officers, first responders, and investigators for their professionalism and dedication as they work diligently to investigate this incident. This is an ongoing investigation which I will not comment on any further, there is no threat to Ambridge at this time.
“Please continue to keep the family’s, first responders, and our community in your prayers.”
