3 men in custody after burglary in Edgeworth, police looking for connection to professional group

EDGEWORTH, Pa. — Three people are behind bars after what happened in Edgeworth on Thursday morning.

A neighbor caught masked men on camera breaking into her home and now authorities are looking into whether they could be part of a professional group.

Only Channel 11 was there as three men were taken off to jail after what Edgeworth’s Police Chief says happened Thursday morning around 8:30. Rick Semple witnessed the police activity.

Semple said, “They were all walking up Edgeworth Lane, so I knew something was going on. Then, as soon as I got back to our house here, I got a text from Quaker Valley school where my daughter goes, about what was going on.”

That text said the high school was on lockdown after a reported home invasion.

“It was quite something. Hasn’t happened here as far as I know in a long time, but you know it did today,” Semple explained.

A homeowner on Oliver Road called police when her security cameras captured two masked men trying to break into the back door. Police surrounded the home while the two suspects were inside, but they ran off. When an Edgeworth neighbor saw them running through his backyard, he ran outside and tackled one of the men until police were able to put him in handcuffs.

Semple said, “I’m just glad they did that. That shows that we’ve got good people here. Good neighbors; they look out for themselves and for each other.”

A Leetsdale police officer saw the other suspect hiding in a bush, crawling on his hands and knees and was able to arrest him.

Meanwhile, Ohio Township police spotted a car with Georgia plates that authorities say may have been connected and arrested that man.

Edgeworth’s chief says the men are not from the Pittsburgh area. They believe they may be a professional group working in the area because they have video from yesterday of the suspect’s car casing the house that was burglarized.
