3 suspects in deadly 2021 Marshall-Shadeland shooting arrested

PITTSBURGH — Case closed years after a homicide in Marshall-Shadeland and court documents show the suspects googled “WPXI Breaking News” just hours after shots were fired.

It was August 17, 2021, when police blocked off Malden Street and detectives said they found Ernest Adams shot and killed behind the front door of his duplex.

The first clue to police on what happened came from the security camera on the outside of the home, capturing a woman inside with Adams and a gunman wearing a “PUMA” logoed shirt firing into the home.

Court paperwork said that the gunman allowed the woman to come out of the door before firing, along with a second shooter.

All three people, police said, fled the scene. Using city surveillance cameras, police determined a potential suspect’s car was a maroon Chevy.

Two hours before the murder, police said that Chevy stopped at the Speedway in McKees Rocks, where the driver, now known as Jermale Lewis, 29, was seen at the pumps wearing a shirt with the same PUMA logo.

Using license plate readers, detectives found that the car belonged to Ramone Harrison, 29. Just one day after the murder, police were on a search for Harrison.

Police did find him in Carrick, where they said he led them on a chase that ended on Novel Way and Harrison was arrested, but not yet charged in this murder.

Three years later, in 2024 is when police were able to positively identify with previous footage Lewis, Harrison and Caia Oliver, 21, the woman who was in Adam’s house at the time of the murder.

That’s when the FBI did a forensic investigation showing all the GPS locations matched these activities, even showing Lewis and Harrison calling Oliver minutes before the shooting, as she sat in the house with Adams.

Just two hours after that shooting, cell phone data shows Harrison’s phone reading a social media post of the murder by WPXI’s Jennifer Tomazic, then police said he did a Google search of “WPXI Breaking News” and “WPXI.”

With all these elements and years of tracking, police charged all three with Criminal Homicide.

All three were arrested and denied bail on Thursday and are in the Allegheny County Jail.
