PITTSBURGH — Allegheny General Hospital is being honored as a center of excellence for a cardiology-oncology speciality.
The International Cardio-Oncology Society has given the Pittsburgh hospital — the flagship academic medical center of the hospital network — its Gold-Level Center of Excellence Award. The awarding of the designation is for having a high standard of care for people who could develop cardiotoxicity, heart problems caused by radiation, chemotherapy and other oncology treatments.
“This recognition underscores the exceptional dedication of our clinicians in providing the highest level of care to cardio-oncology patients, many of whom are navigating complex and multifaceted health journeys,” said Dr. Valentyna Ivanova, who is a board-certified cardio-oncologist at the AHN Cardiovascular Institute. “I commend the remarkable clinicians throughout the AGH Cardio-Oncology Center whose innovative and life-saving work exemplifies our commitment to advancing therapeutic strategies and delivering unparalleled care within this highly specialized field.”
