PITTSBURGH — Neighbors in Troy Hill say that they’ve been worried a building collapse was going to happen at the American Legion. They say they started to see the back of the building coming off 6 months ago.

Kelly Davis of Troy Hill said, “The wall was basically coming off for at least 6 months and nothing happened.”
Kelly Davis says the partial collapse of the American Legion Building in Troy Hill could’ve been prevented.
“I’m enraged. I am livid - I am so angry. Everybody has known about this and yet nothing was done.”
On Saturday morning, City of Pittsburgh officials say inspectors from the Department of Permits, Licenses and Inspections were called to the 1500 block of Hatteras Street after the back of the house on the second floor collapsed.
Josh Hartman of Troy Hill said, “Look at the roof. That part looks like it’s gonna fall anytime soon.”
Which is part of the reason city officials say they have to do an emergency demolition.
“I’ve been in that place before and even the floors before they condemned it really didn’t feel safe,” Hartman said.
The American Legion in Troy Hill hasn’t had an active post here for quite some time. According to city records, PLI inspectors say the building had been partially collapsing since November of last year.
Now, for safety reasons the building has to come down. The city says it’ll start taking bids for the project starting Monday. Neighbors are hoping it happens fast.
Neighbors expect this issue to come up at the next Troy Hill citizens meeting Wednesday at 6 o’clock.
The city plans to proceed with bidding for the demolition on April 7.
