Armed man shot by officer at Bethel Park apartment complex, police say

BETHEL PARK, Pa. — A Bethel Park man was shot by a police officer as police tried to serve an arrest warrant Wednesday night.

45-year-old William Adam was shot in the face after reportedly barricading himself in his apartment and pointing a gun at police. A Bethel Park officer reportedly shot him after Adam entered the hallway with the gun.

Adam appears to have a cheek wound in his mug shot.

Adam’s girlfriend reported a domestic violence incident to police earlier in the day.

According to the criminal complaint, Adam had a DUI hearing that morning and was intoxicated that afternoon. His girlfriend said he threatened her with a gun multiple times, preventing her from leaving the bedroom. The report says a friend arrived at the apartment and that Adam threatened them both, saying if his girlfriend didn’t give him her ATM card, he’d shoot them both. She told police he said, “Put me in jail.”

I’ve been here four years, and it has always been a really super nice complex,” said neighbor Donna Bidoli. Bidoli heard the shot fired.

“All I heard was a big boom, and she got scared [her dog] and she got really, really scared. It shakes you up, it does. Honest to God, it does shake you up.”

Adam was taken to the hospital in stable condition and then to the Allegheny County Jail. Bethel Park police handed over the investigation to Allegheny County detectives.
