PITTSBURGH — A man is accused of robbing the Pizza Hut in Pittsburgh’s Bloomfield neighborhood before leading officers on a chase.
Jason Fields is facing charges ranging from robbery, terroristic threats and eluding police.
Police said officers were called to the Pizza Hut on the 4700 block of Baum Boulevard in Bloomfield at 6:30 p.m. for reports of an armed robbery at a business.
Police said Fields held a cashier at gunpoint, demanding money at the Pizza Hut on Baum Boulevard. The cashier told police they believed Fields had taken anywhere from $400 to $600 from the register and safe, according to the criminal complaint.
Fields then allegedly left the Pizza Hut in a blue Honda Pilot, heading towards the Bloomfield Bridge.
According to the criminal complaint, Fields drove up to speeds of 80 miles per hour, and at times into oncoming lanes. Police lost Fields, then found him in Penn Hills, where police say he crashed the car at the intersection of Lincoln Road & Verona Road.
Court documents say that the officer took the cashier to the scene of the crash to identify Fields.
Police said they recovered money and a gun.
No injuries were reported.
