WASHINGTON, Pa. — UPDATE 9:30 P.M.
The investigation is ongoing into a pedestrian killed by a vehicle on Saturday night in Washington.
City of Washington police say officers were called to the 800 block of Jefferson Avenue just before 1 a.m. for a man lying in the road and not breathing.
Officers found a deceased male lying partly in the road who appeared to have been hit or run over by a vehicle, police say. The road was immediately shut down, and an investigation was launched.
Police say the original 911 caller, a possible driver involved and a passerby were on scene when officers arrived.
The Washington County coroner identified the victim as Steven Elliott, 51, of Washington.
The investigation is ongoing as officials try to determine what led up to the 911 call, police say.
Initial reports from the coroner’s office claimed that a driver stopped to help the driver of a pickup truck, believing the truck had hit an animal. The first driver called 911 after realizing the object in the road was a person.

The first driver realized the object in the road was a person and called 911 around 12:30 a.m.
Saturday evening, Coroner Tim Warco identified the victim as Steven Elliott, 51, of Washington.
Washington County police are investigating to determine the manner of death.
An autopsy is pending to determine the cause of death.
