Cold Weather Advisory, Extreme Cold Warning issued until Wednesday

PITTSBURGH — Plan for one of the coldest mornings in over a decade early Wednesday as low temperatures drop to -9°. The record low for Pittsburgh is -14° degrees set in 1936. Wind chills will range from - 10° to -20° making it dangerous to be outdoors unprepared. A fresh coating of snow could also leave untreated surfaces slick.

Temperatures will gradually moderate through the rest of the week with highs by this weekend rebounding near or above freezing by Sunday.

Make sure to be prepared for the cold weather. Use caution when traveling, make sure to have extra layers and a blanket with you, limit time outdoors, and keep pets inside.  Don’t forget to protect pipes as they could freeze in this extended cold stretch.
