JEANNETTE, Pa. — A woman is dead after a house fire in Jeannette.
Westmoreland County 911 dispatch officials tell Channel 11 that the fire at a home on the 800 block of Scott Avenue was reported around 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Jeannette Police Chief Derek Manley says his officers tried to get inside the home, but were met with intense heat and flames.
Firefighters also had a hard time getting into the home because of how much was inside. A neighbor said emergency crews tried the front door, but were stopped by debris, then tried the windows, but that didn’t work either.
“It was nothing but smoke and flames, and like I said, there was so much garbage in there from hoarding it, that they couldn’t even get in the building. They’re still having a hard time getting in,” Larry Stauffer said.
Westmoreland County Coroner Tim Carson confirmed Elizabeth Liptak, 67, died in the fire.
Manley says her death has been ruled accidental. The fire started on a stove top in the kitchen.
