Court docs: Former Butler County EMT accused of sexually assaulting 3 boys under 13

Court documents reveal the allegations that led to over a dozen charges being filed against a local former EMT with ties to youth sports organizations.

Channel 11 first told you about Pennsylvania State Police deciding to file charges against Nathan Miller, 51, on Saturday after exclusively reporting on the indecent assault allegations brought against him.

Now, online court records show that Miller faces 16 charges, including two counts of sexual assault by a sports official, three counts of indecent assault of a person less than 13 and three counts of endangering the welfare of children.

A criminal complaint obtained by Channel 11 states that Miller inappropriately touched three boys, all when they were over at his house.

Two of the boys interviewed by state police claimed Mitchell would give them melatonin before sleepovers at his house. However, one of those boys questioned whether the substance was actually melatonin, and the other recounted being hesitant to take the hormone, but said Miller insisted he should.

These two boys both alleged that the inappropriate contact had been ongoing for three years. They both also told police that Mitchell would say “I love you” to them, which they each said made them uncomfortable.

The affidavit breaks down allegations against Mitchell, as described by the alleged victims. “Mitchell would state ‘I was snuggling you the whole night and you weren’t giving me any snuggles.’”

Court records said Mitchell communicated with the alleged victims via electronic device, and even instructed one alleged victim, on one occasion, to turn his location back on after he turned it off.

One of the victims told state police Mitchell saved the boy’s name in his phone with heart emojis next to it, court records show.

“Victim #2 also advised that Mitchell would use code words when texting, like “FLU” for “freaking love you” and SNS for “Sending Nate Snuggles,” the affidavit states.

Mitchell is no longer employed with Quality EMS and has been placed on leave by the Adams Area Fire District, in accordance with their policy.

“Prior to his acceptance into our organization, Mr. Mitchell underwent a thorough vetting process in compliance with district policy. The background checks conducted by the Adams Area Fire District align with the recommendations of the Commonwealth for organizations that may have contact with minors during their work. At this time, the Adams Area Fire District has no knowledge of any accusations of wrongdoing against Mr. Mitchell during his performance as a member of the district. It is important to note that Mr. Mitchell was acting as an independent contractor while providing coverage for the youth football organization,” a joint statement from Chief Talo Capuzzi and President Jason Safreed said.

Mitchell remains a member of the fire district, but his affiliation will be reevaluated following the conclusion of an internal investigation.

Mitchell is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Wednesday morning. Channel 11 will cover developments in the case.
