Parkway North restrictions lifted after crash involving PennDOT vehicle

Crash involving PennDOT vehicle shuts down most of I-279

A crash involving a PennDOT vehicle caused traffic restrictions on the Parkway North for several hours on Saturday.

An Allegheny County 911 official tells Channel 11 that the southbound crash was reported near the Mt. Nebo exit just after 7:20 a.m. Saturday. A PennDOT official confirms the crash involved one of their vehicles that was picking up litter.

Our crew on scene saw a PennDOT truck with its airbags deployed and a damaged guide rail.

The PennDOT official says an employee was involved in the crash, but the extent of his injuries is not currently known.

The crash briefly shut down all southbound I-279 from the I-79/279 split to a mile south of Camp Horne Road. All restrictions were lifted by 9:45 a.m.
