DUQUESNE, Pa. — Duquesne’s former mayor tells Channel 11 her home was the target of gunfire on July 4th.
We saw a number of bullet holes in the house. One was right near a recliner where she typically sits. That day, she wasn’t feeling well and was out of the room.
“I ran to the bathroom, started throwing up and I heard this loud boom,” Nickole Nesby said.
“The bullet entered through the back door, shattered the glass. It entered right here and exited in the kitchen, where it went through the wall and into the living room before it exploded.”
Another bullet broke a basement window.
“I was scared. I was frightened.”
Nesby, who served as mayor from 2018 to 2022, says she called police. Two officers came to her house that day, but that’s the last time anyone was there.
She believes she’s being ignored.
“I don’t know what I can and can’t do at this particular point and I have not been advised by the police department on anything.”
She says she wants to clean up the place. There is still broken glass everywhere.
Channel 11 reached out to Police Chief Thomas Shaw.
He says his department is actively working the case.
“Ms. Nesby was advised the situation is currently under investigation. The day of the incident our department did respond and gathered information for a report. The information was handed over to our Detective and he began to further investigate and gather information to see if a potential suspect can be identified.”
In the meantime, Nesby says she’s not been staying at her house out of fear for her safety.
“I’m a single, black woman. I’m worried.”
Worried, but thankful for that trip to the bathroom.
“It did save my life. Otherwise, I would’ve been sitting there looking at the TV.”
