Emergency crews battle house fire in Allegheny County despite distance, water supply issues

ELIZABETH TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Emergency crews dealt with distance and water supply issues while battling a house fire in Allegheny County on Friday.

The fire in Elizabeth Township was reported just before 4 p.m., according to an Elizabeth Township Fire Department spokesperson.

Emergency crews were called to a house in the 900 block of Dillon Road, the spokesperson says. A passing Allegheny County sheriff’s deputy confirmed the fire shortly afterward.

Crews found significant fire throughout the home, which was not close to the roadway. Furthermore, the home was located up a one-lane driveway and a small bridge with a weight restriction, the spokesperson says.

While some firefighters worked to extinguish the fire, others tried to get a water supply from a hydrant on nearby Simpson Howell Road. The spokesperson says a “catastrophic failure” made the hydrant inoperable.

Crews used tank water while a reliable water supply was established, the spokesperson says.

No injuries were reported.

The Alleghebny County Fire Marshal is investigating.
