BEAVER FALLS, Pa. — A man is facing homicide by vehicle charges related to a crash that left two people dead in Beaver Falls.
Beaver County dispatchers said the crash happened at the intersection of 11th Street and Seventh Avenue at 3:21 p.m. on Sunday.
A Dodge pickup truck, a Nissan sedan and a pedestrian were involved in the crash.
A 25-year-old man was driving the sedan and a 23-year-old woman was riding as a passenger.
The City of Beaver Falls Police Department said the woman died at the scene. The man was flown to a hospital and later died.
The pedestrian was a 48-year-old woman who became pinned under the Nissan. She was rescued by the City of Beaver Falls Fire Department and taken to a local hospital.
Police said Israel Tun Cooch, 45, of Cranberry Township was the driver of the pickup truck. They believe he was driving drunk and did not have a driver’s license. He was flown to a Pittsburgh area hospital.
Cooch faces multiple homicide by vehicle, aggravated assault by vehicle and various DUI charges.
The identities of the victims have not been released at this time. Officials are working to contact their next of kin.
Beaver County Coroner David J. Gabauer said more information would be released Monday afternoon.
“My prayers and support go out to these individuals, their families and all of the first responders that had to witness this horrific accident today,” said Beaver Falls Mayor Kenya Johns said.
Mayor Johns said people have been making “callous comments” about the crash on social media and asked for people to be sure to support the families.
“We have a responsibility, not only to the families mourning their loved ones but also to each other as neighbors. Words matter, and while it’s easy to hide behind screens, they can inflict irreparable harm. I urge every one of us to pause before speaking and consider the pain that others may be carrying,” she said in part. “We are Beaver Falls. We are better than this. Please pray for all those impacted.”
The City of Beaver Falls Police Department is working with Pennsylvania State Police, the Beaver County Detective Bureau, Pennsylvania State Police and the Beaver County District Attorney’s Office as the investigation continues.
