Fans disappointed by Mac Miller bobblehead distribution at PNC Park, frustrated with resellers

PITTSBURGH — On Sunday night, the sought-after Mac Miller bobbleheads were listed for as much as $2,000 on eBay, leaving many fans frustrated after they had waited for hours. Channel 11 News captured footage of the long line stretching across the Roberto Clemente Bridge and into the city.

“They knew people were coming for the bobbleheads,” said Pirates fan Nick Briggs.

Hundreds of fans who attended Saturday night’s Pirates game had hoped to receive a special edition Mac Miller Pirates bobblehead. The keepsake was promised to the first 20,000 guests, but after hours of waiting, many walked away empty-handed. This included Trisha and Nick Briggs, a couple from Bellevue, who reported they waited for more than two hours.

“Once they saw they had a sold-out crowd, why not just place a second order?” Briggs questioned.

Some guests camped out as early as 8 a.m., while others joined the line at 11 a.m., nearly eight hours before the 6:40 p.m. game started. Footage sent to the station showed the line extending halfway across the bridge and looping into downtown.

“Oh my God, it was crazy! The lines were stretching halfway across the bridge by 2:30 in the afternoon,” said Sean Yee, who set up to sell water outside the stadium and sold over 21 cases on Saturday night.

“Cars were beeping; it was not a safe situation,” Briggs explained.

Upset fans even began fighting over the bobbleheads, and video footage was sent to Channel 11 News. The couple revealed they saw other guests take multiple bobbleheads at once and then attempt to resell them both outside and inside the stadium.

“You would walk inside, and it wasn’t just a single person getting a single bobblehead; these resellers were coming back through and grabbing several bobbleheads. That’s how some ended up with six,” Briggs said.

Online, the bobblehead is now being sold for as much as $2,000, while a commemorative Mac Miller Pirates t-shirt, which was also sold during Saturday’s game, is now listed for hundreds of dollars after it too sold out on Saturday night.

Unlike the bobbleheads, the Pirates confirmed that they have ordered more shirts and will begin selling them in the clubhouse store on July 25.

We reached out to the Pirates for a comment and to inquire if they planned to issue vouchers but have not yet received a response.
