Former UPMC Children’s Hospital doctor charged with trying to have sex with child

A former UPMC Children’s Hospital doctor has been charged with trying to have sex with a child.

The Florida Attorney General’s Office says 38-year-old Mohamed Mesregah was caught along with five other men as part of an online sting operation.

According to Dr. Mohamed Mesregah’s LinkedIn profile, he was working at UPMC Children’s Hospital as a Pediatric Orthopaedic Fellow through July of this year.

“He was taken into custody after coming down here for a doctor’s conference and immediately started trying to find a young girl,” Martin County. FL Sheriff John Budensiek said.

Channel 11 obtained text messages sent by Mesregah to that decoy, including: “We can do sex positions you like” and “We will have a lot of fun together.”

Documents from the Florida Attorney General’s Office show that Mesregah denied knowing the girl was 14 despite the decoy texting him “Im 14 but im not a baby so i hope thats not a problem” and “I start high school next yr.”

A UPMC spokesperson told Channel 11 that Mesregah was fired. A Pitt spokesperson said that he does not and has never worked at the University.

According to Florida officials, Mesregah is from Egypt and is in the country on a student visa.

“Unfortunately, he’s bonded out. We’re working trying to revoke the visa he has here for status in our country,” Sheriff Budensiek said.

Friday evening, Florida’s attorney general posted about he case on “X” saying:

“We subpoenaed his records, which UPMC has yet to provide. The ball is in your court, UPMC. We can do this the easy way or the hard way.”

Channel 11 reached out to UPMC, which said it had no further statement at this time.
