PITTSBURGH — Highmark Health laid off 208 employees Thursday at one of its subsidiaries, enGen, the second reduction there in less than a year.
The Pittsburgh-based health care giant confirmed the layoffs and said 86 were in western Pennsylvania and the rest in other enGen offices including eastern and central Pennsylvania and western New York.
The health tech subsidiary was founded in 2014 as HM Health Solutions. It has 12,000 employees who serve a number of health care plans across the United States that serve about 11 million members. HM Health Solutions was rebranded in 2022 to enGen. Highmark Health has more than $26 billion in annual revenue.
Beyond the 86 in western Pennsylvania, there were 41 layoffs in central Pennsylvania, 11 in eastern Pennsylvania, eight in western New York, three in West Virginia and 59 among employees in other states, according to Highmark Health.
