Man accused of exposing himself to women at local park

PITTSBURGH — Families who frequent a local park say they’re being terrorized and harassed by a man exposing himself to them.

Pittsburgh Police tell Channel 11 several people reported the man’s lewd behavior in different parts of Riverview Park in the city’s Perry North neighborhood.

“I think it’s awful and just absolutely wrong,” Danielle Engstrom tells Channel 11.

Danielle Engstrom says it happened to her good friend while she was enjoying the beautiful weather on Sunday.

“She’s doing ok,” Engstrom added. “She’s definitely processing and it’s becoming more real as she’s telling more people about it.”

Engstrom says the man circled around her friend in his car, made some abrupt movements, then got out and exposed himself.

“I’m just thankful to the lord that she had the wits about her and the reaction to notice what was happening and even just hearing her share about how she reacted was such a miracle that she had the thought to call 911 and make that decision before anything else happened,” Engstrom continued.

Her friend was able to stay on the line with 911 until the police got there. She gave police a description of the man.

Channel 11 learned she’s not the only one who filed a police report about this same man. Pittsburgh Police say they got reports from several other people who had similar interactions with the man victims describe as frightening and bold.

Pittsburgh Police say they’re still investigating, and they’ve identified a person of interest. So far, no charges have been filed. Engstrom says she hopes that changes.

“I just hope for justice and pray for justice and just for the future that women can go outside and not have to carry pepper spray and worry about every person who passes them,” Engstrom said.
