Man behind bars after alleged assault with metal bat at Delmont GetGo that sent 2 people to hospital

DELMONT, Pa. — Reno Roberts is currently behind bars, accused of beating two people with an aluminum bat at a GetGo in Delmont. Now the victims are speaking about how they feel lucky to be alive.

“It’s a miracle that I’m still here talking, like I can think,” said Luke Alcorn.

Alcorn and Liz Hobbs drove up to a gas pump just after 9 p.m. on Oct. 16, when they realized Hobbs’ former boyfriend, Roberts, had pulled in a few pumps over.

Roberts allegedly began yelling at the pair, and a fight broke out. Hobbs said Roberts then returned to his car and pulled out a metal bat.

“When he grabbed it, he actually took it, hit it against the ground, then rubbed it against the ground, hit his car twice, I’m guessing to show us that it was a metal bat,” said Hobbs.

According to a police report, Roberts, “...struck Alcorn in the back of the head and upper back. He also struck Hobbs in the back with the same bat.”

Both were diagnosed with severe concussions. Alcorn was diagnosed with a brain bleed, and his injuries are still visible a week later.

“The look in his eyes and everything ... it didn’t seem like he was going to stop,” said Hobbs.

Alcorn said, “I got hit five or six times. I should be in a hospital in a coma.”

Eventually, Roberts left the GetGo after his mother, who was sitting in the passenger seat of his car, called for him, reports say. Alcorn was going in and out of consciousness when medics arrived, and Hobbs couldn’t even move.

“We just never knew if he was going to show up and try to finish the job,” said Hobbs.

Police eventually found Robert’s car at his home with the metal bat in the back seat.

Roberts was denied bond and is set to appear in court on Oct. 28.
