Police say first responders found a man shot several times. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

Channel 11 spoke with a woman who says she called police when she saw the man bleeding on the sidewalk.

“One of my customers came in moments later and said, ‘someone just got shot,’” Tracy Holt said. “So, we all came running out of the shop and the guy was laying there on the ground, bloody.”

She was one of the first of a group of neighbors to get to the gas station.

“He was bleeding from under his arm,” Holt said. “He was bleeding on the side of his stomach.”

She owns Tracy’s Place just down the street on 8th Avenue. She said she rushed over to the victim and could hear him talking.

“I heard ‘somebody call my mom. Somebody call my mom.’ And that’s when I got really nervous. I called the police twice,” Holt said.

Neighbors like Tony Harp said they are shocked that this happened in such a busy part of town.

“A shooting in broad daylight on 8th Avenue, the main street in Homestead. I don’t know what it’s coming to out here,” Harp said.

At this point, no arrests have been made.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call the County Police Tip Line at 1-833-ALL-TIPS. Callers can remain anonymous.
