Man douses ATM with gasoline, lights it on fire in Ross Township

ROSS TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Police are asking for help identifying a man police say set an ATM on fire in Ross Township early Wednesday morning.

Ross Township Police said a man approached the ATM at Chase Bank near the intersection of McKnight Road and Sibert Road with a gas can. The man then doused the ATM with gasoline and lit it on fire before fleeing the area.

The ATM is not attached to the bank, so the structure was never in danger. The ATM itself sustained “superficial damage.”

The department later released photos of the suspect as he poured gasoline on the ATM.

Police say the investigation so far leads towards his actions being “an act of vandalism and perhaps a statement against this bank or the banking industry at large.” Investigators don’t think he was trying to steal money or otherwise compromise the ATM.

Anyone who recognizes the man suspected in the incident is asked to call the police at 412-931-9070.
