WEST MIFFLIN, Pa. — Scammers who are using skimmers to get access to personal information have targeted yet another local business.
West Mifflin Police said they are reviewing surveillance video from inside 7-Eleven on Camp Hollow Road to see if they can pinpoint the time someone attacked the skimmer to the card reader.
“I was terrified. Your whole life can flash before your eyes in a financial sense,” Corey Miller said.
Miller said he found the skimmer service when he went to pay for his item at the store near the Allegheny County Airport Friday morning.
“As soon as I did it, I noticed there was a gap between the buttons and the actual slot where the card reader goes in,” Miller said. “I tugged on it very lightly. I just barely pulled and the number pad and everything pulls out with my card still in it.”
He called 911 and officers showed up.
Since then, police tell Channel 11 they’ve been watching the surveillance video to learn more.
Right now, they do not know how long the service was on the card reader.
“I had to cancel my credit card immediately like finding something like this, I never thought this would happen to me. I’m just glad I was paying attention to all the consumer reports,” said Miller.
Miller wonders if the person who attached the skimmer purposely was targeting a business near the airport.
“That’s where you would have more personal and more private business people coming through. Quick stop at the gas station filling up their car when they leave it for the airport,” Miller said.
Detectives are working to find out if this skimmer could be connected to any of the other skimmers that have recently been found in our area.
