Man found shot dead when Pittsburgh police respond to home for woman who was assaulted

PITTSBURGH — A man was found shot dead inside a Pittsburgh home when officers responded to a call for a woman who had been assaulted.

Officers got called to the home in the 2600 block of Winchester Drive in Banksville just after 9:45 a.m.

When inside the home, police said they found a woman with significant facial lacerations and injuries. She was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

Police then performed a protective sweep of the home and found a man who had been shot in the head on the second floor. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Pittsburgh police continue to investigate.

Neighbors on this otherwise quiet street say they were shocked to see police flood the area this morning.

“I went out this morning, which is unusual for me. I had to do some grocery shopping,” neighbor Debbie Carso said. “When I came home, the street was lined with cop cars. I stopped to ask if everything was OK, and they wouldn’t tell me anything — just said that I was safe and could go home.”

Carso says she knew the couple well and never imagined things would turn violent.

“Absolutely unexpected. I mean, I know they got into arguments — she got upset with him like any married couple — but I certainly didn’t know it would lead to this kind of violence.”

Multiple neighbors told us they are praying hard for the woman who was critically injured, saying she was kind to everyone.

“I’m just sorry this happened,” Carso said.
