Manager of local assisted living facility charged with stealing thousands from 81-year-old resident

ALLEGHENY TOWNSHIP, Pa. — The Resident Director of Pleasant Ridge Mature Living Facility in Allegheny Township turned herself in to police — after she was accused of stealing nearly $60,000 from an 81-year-old resident.

Tanya Palmer is now facing more than a dozen charges.

Pleasant Ridge is recently under new ownership, and the new owners noticed money was missing.

According to investigators, Palmer was hiding the fact that this man lived in the care home – so she could keep his rent money.  She was in charge of the monthly resident roster, and wasn’t including that particular resident in the headcount. Police say she had been stealing his rent checks from 2022-2024.

Records from the facility show that the victim was served with an eviction notice in 2022.

When detectives went through the victim’s bank records, he allegedly told them, “someone is ripping me off, and I think that someone is Tanya.”

Detectives also say that Palmer stole from another patient — by telling him he was behind in rent, and taking one of his blank checks.

The new owner told Channel 11 she is appalled by what happened, has since fired several former employees, and made policies that safeguard the residents.
