MCDONALD, Pa. — The McDonald Police Department is asking for information after the window of one of their police cruisers was smashed out.
On Sunday, around 9:25 p.m., police said a man pounded on an office window of the McDonald Borough Police Department. The officer on duty then went outside and found the driver’s side window of a police cruiser shattered.
Police said they have video that shows the suspect walking around the borough building while talking on the phone. He had a metal baseball bat, wearing a black balaclava-type mask and gloves.
“The person clearly planned this out. They walked a fair amount of distance with that bat,” Officer Erik Kulik said. “Appeared to be on a cell phone talking to someone as they approach the station so this wasn’t just a spur-of-the-moment event.”
It was only seconds after banging on the borough building door and window that the person smashed the cruiser’s back window.
“The concern is that someone is this angry that goes out of their way to interact violently with a police officer. The concern is that they’ll do that with anybody else who’s not prepared, who’s not trained,” Kulik added.
Community members say this kind of violence isn’t typical and question why anyone would be so bold, especially with cameras everywhere.
“We’re on video right now, not only here, but I’m sure right here. Kind of makes you think how intelligent are people now?” Jerry Feit said.
Police are reviewing surveillance from multiple angles. They say there may be more than one person involved.
“The person may have gotten in another vehicle and drove away so there may be an accomplice involved,” Kulik said.
Police are asking anyone who recognizes the person in the video to call them. They’re also asking people who have doorbell cameras and live nearby to check their footage.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Chief Timothy Motte at tmotte@mcdonaldboro.com.
