Clark Howard’s ‘Never, Not Ever’ rules to protect your money

Consumer advisor Clark Howard always tells viewers what they should do to protect their finances and avoid scams. Now, he flips the script and tells viewers what they should never do.

Clark emphasizes the importance of never checking laptops or prescription pills when flying, as airlines will not compensate for lost or stolen items.

“You are going to need these and if this gets lost or stolen the airline is going to pay you nothing,” Howard warns.

Howard also advises against negotiating car deals at the dealership, suggesting that consumers should make deals from home to retain the advantage.

“You never, never, never, not ever make your deal at the dealer because remember, you’re on their home field,” he explains.

When it comes to trading in a vehicle, Howard cautions against doing so if there is still money owed, as it could lead to financial complications.

Additionally, Howard advises against paying advance deposits with cash or debit cards, recommending the use of credit cards instead to ensure better protection if the business fails.

He further advises against investing with banks or insurance companies due to hidden fees, recommending low-cost companies like Vanguard, Schwab, or Fidelity instead.
