A New Castle man is behind bars after police say he led officers on a chase through multiple communities while driving a stolen truck.
During the chase, investigators say he almost hit a police officer who was trying to get him to stop.
Dashcam video obtained by Channel 11 shows a white Chevy pickup truck coming off a median on Route 19 in Cranberry, cut off several drivers — and in the process — lost one of its tires, but keeps going.
Police say Thomas Reed was behind the wheel. He’s accused of leading police on a chase that started in Lawrence County and ended near the intersection where the truck lost its tire.
Police near New Castle put out a “Be On The Lookout” alert for the white truck, and when an officer spotted it, the chase began.
From neighborhood to neighborhood — the truck took officers through New Castle, Ellwood City, then down to Cranberry, which is when police called off the chase.
At one point, investigators say Reed narrowly missed a Zelienople officer who was putting out spike strips to stop the truck.
The officer had to jump out of the way when police say Reed swerved in his direction.
Later that afternoon, police caught up with Reed again after investigators said he tried shoplifting from the TJ Maxx in the Waterworks, attempted to open a credit card in his brother’s name, then gave an officer several false names.
By the end of the day, he was in police custody.
Police say that Reed was previously arrested for other thefts.
