2 tornadoes touched down in Butler County during storms Wednesday, NWS confirms

UNIONVILLE, Pa. — The National Weather Service confirmed that two tornadoes touched down in Butler County during Wednesday’s storms.

The Unionville Fire Department posted a video of the powerful storm, which blew the roof off of Center Township’s salt shed behind their station. NWS confirmed on Wednesday night that it was a tornado that caused the damage.

Thursday afternoon, the NWS said a separate tornado, that was part of the same storm, touched down in the area of Mack Road in West Sunbury. Large tree limbs were found broken off.

Both tornadoes were EF-0s.

These two bring the total to 8 tornadoes in the Pittsburgh region since the beginning of the year. The last tornado in Butler County was in 2021.

The NWS is also out surveying damage in Allegheny and Washington counties.
