Woman shot in Unity Township, man in custody after hours-long standoff

UNITY TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A man accused of shooting a woman is in custody after emergency crews spent hours responding to a “barricade situation” in Westmoreland County.

Residents were told to avoid the area of Center Drive in Unity Township, Westmoreland County, due to an active police incident at around 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Pennsylvania State Police said they were dealing with a “barricade situation” and asked residents to stay in their homes.

Troopers were first called to the scene for a domestic dispute happening inside a house. They said David Andrew Rebar, 59, shot a woman in the arm. She is expected to be okay.

Pennsylvania State Police said the suspect barricaded himself inside his home after the shooting but surrendered at around 4:32 p.m. after police brought a bulletproof shield to the scene and began to move in.

He is charged with aggravated assault.

Multiple fire units assisted with road closures.

Residents are safe to resume their normal activities.
