Person found shot on Washington County street near elementary school

West Walnut Street Shooting

WASHINGTON, Pa. — A person was found shot on a Washington County street Monday afternoon, emergency dispatchers confirm to Channel 11.

Police responded to the scene at around noon on the 100 block of West Walnut Street in the City of Washington. There, they found a man lying on the sidewalk, shot several times.

Tonight on Channel 11 at 5 p.m., reporter Talia Kirkland speaks exclusively to a neighbor who jumped into action moments after she heard the gunshots.

The shooting happened just feet from several homes and the playground for John F. Kennedy Catholic Elementary School, where neighbors tell us dozens of children had been playing when the gunfire began.

The Pittsburgh Diocese said students at John F. Kennedy Catholic Elementary School were moved away from windows, and the school was secured as a precaution. A school security officer was on site at the time. Everyone at the school is safe.

Police don’t currently know what led up to the brazen midday shooting, and are asking the public to come forward with information.
