PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh city leaders are calling for change after Isiah Brewer, who just graduated from high school just weeks ago, was shot and killed Monday in Crafton Heights.

Brewer, 18, was found shot in the chest and torso in a backyard on Middletown Road. He later died at the hospital.

Councilwoman Theresa Kail-Smith, who represents District 2, where the shooting happened, said she’d like to see a reassessment of violence prevention programs currently in place to see what’s working and what isn’t.

“I want to make sure whatever we’re doing, we’re using a good evaluation of what programs are succeeding, which ones are not, which ones we should fund, which ones we should not…” Kail-Smith said. “I don’t want kids to have to look over their shoulder walking down the street.”

The Commonwealth Charter Academy confirmed to Channel 11 that Brewer graduated with the Class of 2025, saying, “The CCA community is saddened to hear of Isiah’s passing. We extend our deepest sympathies to his family and friends during this difficult time.”

Three people were taken to Pittsburgh Police Headquarters for questioning after city cameras captured their vehicle speeding away from the scene. A man who was shot in the leg was also in that vehicle. He was taken to the hospital and is stable.

Channel 11 has also learned that a dark red Kia sedan was seen leaving the area. It was later found running – but unoccupied – along Terrace Street in Oakland.

Public safety officials tell Channel 11 this is an ongoing and active investigation. Police are pursuing several leads and hope to make arrests soon.
