“I heard a big bam and I kind of was like ‘whoa, what was that?’” one neighbor told Channel 11.
Homeowner Joe Ferson said the bus plowed through both his truck and his house.
“He drove that bus right through my truck and right through my house,” Ferson said.
The crash happened around 3:30 p.m.
Ferson said his wife and daughter were upstairs at the time, and he was downstairs when the bus hit.
“My walls were buckling, my truck was in my living room, my dog was in my lap and there was water everywhere gushing from my water pipes,” he said. “I screamed upstairs. My wife and kid were okay.”
Ferson said he rushed outside and was shocked by what he saw.
“I came flying out on my deck and I seen it was a school bus and my heart immediately dropped,” he said.
Officials confirmed that no students were on board the bus at the time of the crash.
Neighbors acted fast to help rescue the driver from the wreckage.
“The bus driver said he was fidgeting with his water bottle, trying to put it away,” Ferson said.
Beth Ann Stoudt, who lives two doors down, said her uncle helped pull the driver out of the bus.
She worries the damage could impact nearby homes too.
“It’ll affect everybody, not just this house but my uncle’s house and his animals,” she said.
Building inspectors are expected to assess the safety of the structure.
Ferson said his truck is totaled, and it’s likely his family will not be able to live in the house any longer.
Still, he is staying positive.
“Just thanking God everyone is alright and my kids weren’t on that bus,” he said.
Channel 11 has reached out to Rittenhouse Bus Lines, the company that owns the bus and haven’t heard back.
