DUNBAR TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A second woman has been charged in the death of a 9-year-old girl in Fayette County.
Sarah Ann Shipley, 35, of Dunbar Township, is charged with criminal homicide, conspiracy to commit criminal homicide in the death of Renesmay Eutsey.
Shipley is the wife of Kourtney Malinda Eutsey, 31, who was charged in Eutsey’s death on Thursday.
District Attorney Mike Aubele said Shipley is in a hospital and will be immediately taken to her arraignment when she is released.
“We thank the public for their patience in allowing law enforcement to gather the additional evidence that has led to us filing these additional charges,” Aubele said.
Shipley and Kourtney Malinda Eutsey were foster parents to Renesmay Eutsey.
Renesmay was reported missing from her home on Third Street in Dunbar Township on Wednesday at around 12:41 p.m. Police said she was found after Kourtney Eutsey led troopers to her body in a river in Westmoreland County.
Police responded to an incident at Eutsey’s home again on Friday morning.
Warning: The details from the criminal complaint below may be disturbing to some
In a criminal complaint filed against Shipley, troopers said they interviewed her at a hospital. They said she was verbally unresponsive but conscious following a suicide attempt.
Police asked, “Did you try to kill yourself because of what happened to Renesmay?” and said she nodded her head yes.
That complaint also alleges that Shipley helped carry the garbage bag containing Renesmay’s body to Kourtney Eustsey’s car before it was taken to the Yough River.
Police said Shipley told a family member that, while she was in an interview room, Kourtney Eutsey came to her and confessed to killing Renesmay. Police said the two were never actually in contact with each other in an interview room.
Shipley also allegedly told that family member that “we” (she and Kourtney Eustey) had taken the cameras down because Eutsey left two times in the middle of the night and that “would have looked bad.”
Police said the family member reported that Shipley said, “I can’t believe I carried that bag, that had my baby in it,” and “She put my baby in that bag.”
The family member told police they knew Shipley was lying.
