Suspect in deadly Uniontown shooting arrested in Baltimore after 8-day manhunt

An intense, eight-day manhunt for a homicide suspect ended Friday morning in Baltimore.

Authorities say 18-year-old Braedon Dickinson was taken into custody with the help of Pennsylvania State Police, U.S. Marshals and FBI agents. He is expected to be extradited to the Fayette County Jail in the coming days.

Dickinson is accused of killing 20-year-old Lemaur Thompson Jr. on Feb. 5 in Uniontown. Investigators say the two men were walking on Dunlap Street when Dickinson pulled out a gun and shot Thompson in the back of the head in broad daylight.

Fayette County District Attorney Mike Aubele said the search for Dickinson was immediate and involved multiple agencies working around the clock.

“PA State Police in Uniontown have been working 24 hours a day for eight days to make this happen — all hands on deck from the fugitive task force, vice unit, crime unit and patrol,” Aubele said.

Investigators initially offered a $2,000 reward for information leading to his arrest, then increased it to $5,000 earlier this week.

Investigators are still working to determine a motive. The district attorney said gang activity is one possibility.

“We have done remarkable work, especially in the city of Uniontown, eradicating gang activity, drug activity, but it is still there. We aren’t ruling out the possibility this was a gang-related incident,” Aubele said.

Authorities also point to Dickinson’s criminal history as a factor in the intense search. When he was 14, he and a group of teens were accused of killing a man in broad daylight in Westmoreland County in what investigators called a random act of violence.

After that arrest, police say Dickinson escaped from a juvenile detention center, was later caught and had only recently been out of custody.
