Suspect uses car jack to smash front doors of Brentwood convenience store

BRENTWOOD, Pa. — A popular mini-mart in Brentwood was damaged Sunday night after police said a man used a car scissor jack to break the glass on both front doors.

Police were called to the Convenience Express on Brownsville Road and saw surveillance video of a person smashing the front doors with the tool. Court documents say he left, then came back to the store with two people and tried to buy beer but didn’t have enough money. Police said the suspect left with the group but soon returned a third time and began filming himself smashing the windows again with the same object.

Many customers were upset to see the damage, saying the owners didn’t deserve this.

“It was probably somebody out of the community passing through. I don’t think anybody around here would have done that because the people in there are too nice,” said Jeffrey Brown, who comes to the store several times a week. “Who would want to do something like that?”

“I come here every day, they’re very nice. I’m sorry to see this happen,” said customer Arlene Steck.

The store’s manager did a walk-through and determined that nothing was missing from the store, but customers are hoping that something like this never happens again.

“You know, they get too many break-ins, they could shut it down, and people wonder why they don’t have a convenience store on the corner,” Brown said.

Brentwood police have charged Bidat Raden, 23, with attempted burglary, criminal mischief and obstructing law enforcement.
