PITTSBURGH — SWAT responded to a man who barricaded himself in a vehicle in Pittsburgh Tuesday morning.
Pittsburgh Public Safety said around 10 a.m. that SWAT was in the 1300 block of Rutherford Avenue in the Beechview neighborhood for a man in crisis who was believed to be armed and barricaded in a vehicle.
Negotiators responded, and the public was told to avoid the area temporarily.
Public safety officials say the incident was not criminal, and the man was having a severe mental health crisis.
Police and co-response social workers tried to help him, but he repeatedly refused, officials say. Since it is a civil matter, the case has been referred to resolve Crisis Services.
