Thousands without power amid high winds in Pittsburgh area

PITTSBURGH — Channel 11 Meteorologist Adis Juklo reported wind gusts hit nearly 55 mph in Pittsburgh on Friday.

The wind put thousands without power, and the recovery efforts continued on Saturday.

As of 10:45 a.m. Saturday, Duquesne Light Co. reports 75 customers without power between Allegheny and Beaver counties.

In a post on its website, Duquesne Light says, “Due to the high winds that impacted our area this afternoon, we are staffing extra crews to ensure we can safely respond to outages as quickly and safely as possible. Because of potentially hazardous conditions, some response times may be delayed during the event.”

At the same time, FirstEnergy reports over 1,100 customers without power.

  • Allegheny County - 18
  • Armstrong County - 346
  • Butler County - 234
  • Fayette County 13
  • Mercer County - 178
  • Washington County - 211
  • Westmoreland County - 83
