Vehicle stolen in Scott Township armed carjacking recovered in Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH — The vehicle stolen in an armed carjacking at a stoplight in Scott Township was recovered in Pittsburgh on Friday morning.

Channel 11 exclusively captured the silver Jaguar sedan being towed away in the 6600 block of Lyric Street in Lincoln-Lemington-Belmar.

The carjacking happened in broad daylight on Thursday near the Greeentree Shopping Center on Greentree Road. Police said that a driver was ordered out of his vehicle at gunpoint while at a traffic light.

Moments after four men in masks carjacked a man driving a Jaguar on Greentree Road in Scott Township, dispatchers across Allegheny County immediately began communicating.

They used license plate readers, or LPRS, to monitor for the stolen car.

On Friday morning, detectives tracked the Jaguar down in Lincoln-Lemington, a 30-minute drive from where the crime happened.

Police say the masked men pulled out a gun and made the driver of the Jaguar get out while he was at a traffic light.

“I think it’s really horrible. What is this world coming to anymore? It’s awful,” said Lynn Lyons, whose son is a Scott Township police officer. “Thank God he was off duty, that’s all I can say. It’s awful. You’re afraid to go anywhere sometimes and do things. It’s a shame.”

Police say a white and black Dodge Durango was also used by the suspects. None of the suspects have been taken into custody yet.

Asked if the carjacking was targeted or random, police say that’s something they’re still investigating.

Anyone with information on the carjacking or who recognizes the suspects are asked to contact the following investigators:

  • Detective Arlet at (412) 276-7725 ext. 242
  • Detective Samangy at (412) 276-7725 ext. 284

The public is advised to call 911 immediately if they see the individuals involved in this incident, but not to approach them.
