WASHINGTON, Pa. — The man who police believe is responsible for the deadly shooting of Nasstylejah Wilkerson near an elementary school on April 28 has been arrested.
Trevon McCrary, 30, was picked up by the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, McKeesport Police and City of Washington Police in McKeesport Friday morning.
McCrary is charged with criminal homicide, recklessly endangering another person and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
The City of Washington police filed charges against McCrary in April, and an arrest warrant was granted.
Chief Steve Devenney says that while processing the crime scene for evidence, investigators identified and found a vehicle of interest. The “amount of evidence collected” in the first 24 hours after the crime is why police felt they had “enough information” to apply for an arrest warrant.
Police say they believe the two men were half-brothers, and at this point, they are still working to determine a motive.
“It was not a drive-by. Some of the puzzle we hope to piece together is answers to what happened that day,” said Detective John Hritz.
Channel 11’s Jatara McGee questioned the suspect after he was taken into custody, and he said he did not shoot him.
“Why are you being arrested for this?” McGee asked. “I don’t know. Why you asking questions, don’t ya’ll know?” McCreary said.
McCreary is being held in the Butler County jail because of a federal parole detainer. He will be brought back to Washington.
Devenney says McCrary is being held on a federal parole detainer and is in Butler County Jail. He will be extradited to Washington County to face the charges.
The investigation is still ongoing as police “make sure anyone and everyone responsible for the incident on April 28 is held accountable for their action,” Devenney says.
