Rain expected throughout the day, localized flooding possible

PITTSBURGH — Rain is on our doorstep, and it will be around for much of the afternoon. The rain could come down heavy at times, especially for areas south of Interstate 70, where upwards of 2 inches may fall through tonight. Flooding is not a major concern, but localized issues are possible over northern West Virginia and western Maryland, where the ground is saturated.

A gusty storm or two could also develop along and south of the Mason-Dixon line, where the air will have a little more fuel to work with. Elsewhere, while thunder can’t be ruled out, severe weather is not expected.

Steady rain will taper to showers by late in the evening, with showers off and on overnight and into Saturday morning. Saturday’s temperatures will struggle to get out of the upper 50s during the day, with wind gusts that could reach 30 mph at times.

After a chilly start to Sunday, our pattern reverses in a hurry next week with the most impressive surge of warmth yet. Highs could reach the upper 80s by next Wednesday! Stay tuned to Channel 11 for any new updates relating to the heavy rainfall today.
